With graduation season, year-end sports banquets, award assemblies approaching, here is a re-run of David McCullough’s remarkable commencement speech. Whenever I ask parents what they hope for their children, their inevitable reply is, “I just want them to be happy.” Yet, as I have so often noted in this blog, happiness eludes folks who mostly seek their own joy. Mr. McCullough has a book about and some thoughts on why it’s best if we help our kids see NOT how special they are but how who they are can contribute to their world.
